Meanwhile... we do have a car. Purchased with the guidance of Jane's mate, the wonderful Dave Donald, at West Nottinghamshire College's electrical and mechanical engineering's department. He's now going to use the remit of getting the car "rally ready" as a project for his year 3 students. We're so chuffed to have this kind of support. The back seats are being taken out, and other mechanicy type stuff is being done to the engine. Actually, we have no idea what they're doing but we trust them. The team have also offered (actually they'll probably be insisting on it when they realise how little we really know), and for this we are super grateful, to give us a car maintenance course just before we leave. Lesson 1 will involve how to change a tyre we hope.
And we're delighted to share that Halfords ( http://www.halfords.com) have offered to provide any parts needed as well as some of the spares we'll need to take with us. Proper acknowledgments of our sponsors' support will be posted on our website very soon.
(for those of you old enough to remember Rainbow). She's a 2003 Nissan Micra. These little babies have an amazing Mongol Rally success rate and generally seem to be the car of choice. 45 of them set off last year!
